Stacy Jones and Drew Parsons from American Hi-Fi stopped by Going Off Track while they were in town playing a show at the Mercury Lounge to talk about what it was like to have a hit song back when the music industry was thriving. Not to say they’re not doing well now: For the past eight years Jones (who was also in Veruca Salt & Letters To Cleo) has been Miley Cyrus’ musical director. He’s also the touring drummer for Matchbox 20 during his downtime and owns his own studio where he records bands in Los Angeles. Parsons went a different route and is the owner of Radius, one of the highest-rated restaurants in Boston. For the past two decades these two have experienced the the music industry’s evolution firsthand and, as you might guess, they’ve come out with some pretty good stories. You’ll want to listen up.
