Singer-songwriter Frank Turner came by Going Off Track with guest hosts Vanessa Bayer (Saturday Night Live) and Benny Horowitz (The Gaslight Anthem) to discuss reality television, the class system in Europe and the brilliance of the Counting Crows. “If punk means anything to me it’s the idea that you can be your own creation and you’re not predestined to be the person your parents or your schooling say that you should be,” Turner explains at one point when asked about how his upbringing affects his art. “I was not supposed to be this person but I am this person.” We also talk about what it was like opening for the Offspring armed solely with an acoustic guitar, Turner’s love of Lilith Fair acts and that time that two of our guests tried to start a rumor that they were lovers. (Spoiler alert: It’s Benny and Frank.)
